who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.
Two Pieces of News
Piece One
English scholar and Anglican Bishop N.T. Wright retires today. John Piper published a book in response to Wright’s popular What Saint Paul Really Said. Though an apologist for the virgin birth and deity and resurrection of Jesus, and a biblical opponent of homosexual conduct, Wright so disfigured the doctrine of justification in the gospel that Piper was moved to invest the time to publish The Future of Justification, A Response to N.T. Wright which, with gracious tone, clearheadedly defends the imputation of Christ’s righteousness as central to our salvation.
Piece Two
Clark Pinnock died on August 15 at age 73 from a heart attack. The nation’s largest denomination returned to biblical inerrancy through this man who would later reject it himself, eventually becoming a sort of vanguard for innovation on doctrine after doctrine.
The lives of both of these men highlight the crucial importance of being tethered to the Bible and unpacking it with sound methods, especially letting the Bible’s own texts interpret and clarify each other.
Update/Amendment: NT Wright is leaving the bishopric to become professor of New Testament at St. Andrews.
Pastor Sam Crabtree is Bethlehem's Executive Pastor and Lead Pastor for Life Training.
