My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.

In reading John Owen’s The Mortification of Sin, I arrive at chapter eight, “God Requires Universal Obedience,” where Owen says ...
- You cannot mortify a specific lust that is troubling you unless you are seeking to obey the Lord from the heart in all areas.
- We must hate all sin as sin, not just that which troubles us.
- Be watchful against everything that grieves and disquiets the Spirit of God.
- Maybe God has allowed this troubling lust to have power over you to draw your attention to other failures and your lukewarmness.
- When lust finds its expression in a particular avenue, it keeps pushing, vexing, disquieting
