What I Wrote to Vicki From the North Woods

In reading John Owen’s The Mortification of Sin, I arrive at chapter eight, “God Requires Universal Obedience,” where Owen says ...

  • You cannot mortify a specific lust that is troubling you unless you are seeking to obey the Lord from the heart in all areas.
  • We must hate all sin as sin, not just that which troubles us.
  • Be watchful against everything that grieves and disquiets the Spirit of God.
  • Maybe God has allowed this troubling lust to have power over you to draw your attention to other failures and your lukewarmness.
  • When lust finds its expression in a particular avenue, it keeps pushing, vexing, disquieting
