But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
At this week’s Adult Ministries team meeting, Pastor Jack Delk presented a devotional that highlighted two possible dangers that surprisingly lurk in the middle of making progress in your sanctification and growth in holiness: pride and forgetting grace.
If you make noticeable progress, you might become inflated, proud, even cocky.
Or, when you make progress, you might forget that it was God who did it and be tempted to take credit for your own reformation.
Remember God, and stay low.
