Lawrence Chui, the accounting instructor from St Thomas University who volunteers in the office at Bethlehem’s Downtown Campus, offers the following insights comparing earthly warfare with spiritual warfare:
Common military strategies:
- Feed your enemies with falsehood.
- Decimate their morale and their will to fight.
- Hit them where it hurts most.
- Isolate them from their battalions.
As Christians we have an enemy that hates us intensely. Be on guard against believing lies (test everything; hold onto the good), letting forlorn feelings govern (“Why are you downcast, O my soul? … Hope in God”), taking setbacks as defeat, and working on sanctification in isolation.
