Picture of Selflessness

At the Strategy Meeting Sunday night where 350 members gathered to do official business for Bethlehem Baptist Church, before our very eyes we saw a beautiful portrayal of selflessness.

A member from the North Campus went to the microphone and expressed his joy at commending to the South Campus the hiring of the music leader who had successfully completed a two-year residency at the North Campus, effectively leading in worship the very people who would lose him to the South Campus if the vote prevailed. (It did.)

Essentially, the member was giving away his valued asset to a different campus. It was beautiful … like a father who raises his beloved daughter in order to give her away to another. Like an equestrian who patiently breaks and trains a young colt, only to see the colt belong to another owner some day. Like parents who send off their child to do long-term global outreach in a far land. Love gives.
