My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.
Faith and Reason
Faith and reason are not in conflict, separated by some un-crossable chasm as some people imagine. Rather, faith and reason work together seamlessly.
God invites us to reason. We are to strive toward strong and clear reasons for believing what we believe and be ready to explain our reasons to other people (1 Peter 3:15).
Meanwhile, without faith it is impossible to please God, and we are not to lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).
Faith and reason go together. Without faith we would have no reason, for in order to reason we must assume (by faith) that there is order and laws of logic which correctly and rationally lead from assumption to conclusion. And faith turns no blind eye toward reason.
Since reasoning cannot be done without laws of logic, and laws imply a Law-Giver, reasoning against faith is like building a castle in the air.
