4. A broken and contrite heart
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.—Psalm 51:17
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.—Psalm 34:18
God heals the brokenhearted.—Psalm 147:3
“I dwell in the high and holy place … to revives the heart of the contrite.”—Isaiah 57:15
5. A tender heart
Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.—2 Chronicles 34:27
Be … tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.—Ephesians 4:32
6. A meek and lowly heart
Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.—Matthew 11:29 (KJV)
The meek … shall inherit the earth.—Matthew 5:5
