My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.

More important than wisdom and more important than character is the condition of the heart, from which wisdom and character spring:
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
—Proverbs 4:23
What is in the heart determines every other area:
As [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he.
—Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)
Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
—Matthew 12:34
[They] honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
—Matthew 15:8
Over the next four days, we will encounter 11 hearts.
- A clean heart
“Create in me a clean heart, O God.”—Psalm 51:10 - A pure heart
Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart.—Psalm 24:3–4
Purify your hearts, you double-minded.—James 4:8
Love one another earnestly from a pure heart.—1 Peter 1:22
The pure in heart … shall see God.—Matthew 5:8 - A wise and understanding heart
If you receive my words and treasure up my commands with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart understanding … then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.—Proverbs 2:1–2, 5
