Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious.
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. —Proverbs 25.28
Pastor Kempton and his wife, Caryn, recently shared at MOMS. They reminded us that every believer has been empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a self-controlled life for the glory of Christ. Here is a portion of the message:
In Solomon’s day “walls” were everything. There were no alarm systems. No walls meant: no safety, no protection from enemies. This was the most vulnerable, horrific, tragic condition of a city.
Nehemiah wept = when there are no signs of self-control in your life, this is very dangerous for your heart and your home and it is a call for weeping and repentance before the Lord!
Self-control sets up a firewall around your heart and mind and home to help protect you and keep you safe from unholy and unhealthy pleasures and patterns that long to destroy you and your family. Moms, be on your guard: exercising self-control is about protecting your heart and your home!
Be encouraged, be blessed. Listen now.
