Kenya Famine Relief Update

Bethlehem recently gave a gift for famine relief in Kenya through Africa Inland Mission.  Brian Arensen, AIM's Executive Officer for Africa's Eastern Region sent the following update.

"A portion is being used to purchase and transport food from Marsabit to the fledgling church among the Daasanach people group in Illeret near the Ethiopian border.  Illeret is about 350KM from Marsabit on dirt and mud tracks and transport is a major expense.  It is also off the maps and radar of all big relief organizations, so this will be a huge boost to a very needy community.  Our missionary in Kalacha, Eddie Andersen, will be organizing the relief convoy and will travel with local church leaders from Marsabit area to encourage the Christians and community in that remote area of northern Kenya.

The other portion was sent to Garissa to purchase food for the Somali villages under the oversight of a Somali believer who works with YWAM.   He told me recently that the people in those Muslims communities have been very pleased to know that Christians have been willing to help them.  The opportunity to assist them in the time of their need is opening doors in the community which the YWAM worker will follow up in the coming months and years.  We are praying that your gifts will be part of a large turning to Christ within the villages in the Garissa area as they learn of Jesus’ love for them.

The famine is off the news these days and actually the problem now is flooding with a month plus of heavy rains.  But people are still hungry since much of their livestock died and crops have not had time to mature.  So we are continuing to distribute famine relief in various areas of the country."
