The following outline and discussion questions have been prepared to accompany the sermon on March 18/19, “The Gospel of God” (Mark 1:14–15). The questions can be used for discussion in small groups or for personal reflection.

Outline

  1. God Reveals (vv. 14–15a)
  2. We Respond (v. 15b)

Main Point: Repent and believe the gospel!

Discussion Questions

  • What are the four points of verses 14–15 that combine into one great point that unpacks the gospel? What does each point contribute to the cumulative point?
  • What does it mean to repent and believe the gospel? How does the Bible say repentance and faith are produced in us?
  • What are the three aspects of Jesus’ ministry that are sometimes used to explain his full glory and full victory over sin?

Application Questions

  • The Christian life is a life of ongoing repenting and believing. We need to repent of things that compete with the gospel as supplements, replacements, or diversions.
  • What is the fundamental truth that the gospel establishes in terms of vindicating God’s own glory against the character assassination of Satan?
  • What truths landed upon you in this message that you need to share with others in your life? How can you share these truths? Devote this to prayer.

Prayer Focus
Pray for a grace to live an ongoing life of repentance and faith in the gospel and celebrate the vindication of God in the gospel of God.
