GLOBAL DIACONATE 2009 Initiatives
JANUARY
Community Health Evangelism, SIM, Guinea
Funds were dispersed for a Community Health Evangelism (CHE) project reaching Muslims in Guinea. The initiative involves using a holistic training approach, addressing both spiritual and physical needs in this region. ($10,000)
Peace and Hope Partnership International, Ecuador
Peace and Hope Partnership International has been working in justice ministry in South America for 15 years. This new project mobilizes pastors and churches to raise awareness of abuse and prevent human trafficking. ($5,000)
Earthquake Relief, Pakistan
In October 2008 there was an earthquake in the Gogi region, the central west area of Pakistan/Afghanistan. One of our Bethlehem missionaries has taken a leadership role with an aid organization. The funds helped provide wells for clean water and firewood to help people through the winter. ($5,000)
MARCH
Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAAST), Bangladesh
In September 2009, Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAAST) will host a training for Christian organizations working to care for victims of human trafficking in Bangladesh. FAAST developed curriculum (Hands That Heal: International Curriculum to Train Caregivers of Trafficking Survivors) to train Christian caregivers to provide appropriate and holistic care for survivors of sex trafficking. ($8,500)
Wheels for the World, Cameroon
A Bethlehem short-term missions team traveled to Cameroon to minister to people with disabilities. Christ’s love was compassionately shared and wheelchairs were carefully fitted for those in need. Funds for transporting the wheelchairs to Cameroon were provided by the Global Diaconate. ($15,000)
APRIL
Freedom Firm, India
Freedom Firm has opened a new office in Pune, India to aid in the investigation of and care of trafficked girls. ($15,000). A Bethlehem Baptist Church short-term missions team will be traveling to India in May to partner with Freedom Firm to host a retreat for girls and young women who have been rescued from brothels.
