Programmatic Life of Bethlehem
Author:

Derived from a document formerly called Five Programmatic Commitments, these five expectations are among other biblical expectations we have for members at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

These expectations address the question “What do the pastoral staff and elders regard has healthy time investment in the programs of Bethlehem for the vast majority of our members?”  Or, it’s a way of asking, “What does a normal rhythm of life look like for a member?” We acknowledge that there are members in good standing who will not be able to be involved in the way or to the degree that we are recommending.  This is not due to lack of spiritual maturity, vision, or commitment on their part, but simply due to age, physical condition, or other extraordinary circumstances.

We desire for members to care for other members and to be cared for themselves, encouraging them to use their spiritual gifts to whatever degree they are able.

While it is the members’ responsibility to fulfill these expectations, it is Bethlehem’s responsibility to provide avenues for these expectations to be fulfilled.

1.    Exulting Together in the Supremacy of Christ.  Participate regularly in corporate worship. (Psalm 95:6)

2.    Joined Together in Building Up.  Known and cared for by a trained and sensitive leader who is directly accountable to the official leadership of the church, being involved in a small group (shepherd group) where needs are served and gifts practiced.  (Ephesians 4:16)

3.    Assured Together in Faith and Understanding. Systematically taught as one who is a committed life-long learner for the purpose of growing in the knowledge and understanding of biblical faith and doctrine.  (2 Peter 3:18)

4.    Laboring Together for the Common Good (“Inside”).  Personally involved in on-going ministry directed toward building up the Church (believers) according to one’s gifts. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

5.    Serving Together in the Gospel and Mercy (“Outside”).  Personally involved in on-going ministry directed toward unbelievers. (2 Corinthians 5:11)
