Aim:
To spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ by providing pastoral leadership to develop and sustain disciplemaking among Campus Outreach and Bethlehem’s Outreach ministries so that the mission of the church is carried out, the theological teaching of the Elder Affirmation of Faith is joyfully embraced, and the “Ten Dimensions of Church Life” are made manifest.
Qualifications & Requirements:
He will be expected to joyfully minister in accord with the Bethlehem Pastor’s Covenant. The DCOM/LPO should endeavor to experience and maintain the joyful camaraderie and creative complementation of gifts and ministries of the Preaching Pastor, Executive Pastor, vocational pastors, elders and staff.
The DCOM/LPO will be a member in good standing of Bethlehem Baptist Church. If not a member when called by the church, he will complete the process within three months of the date when employment begins. Beyond the doctrinal and ethical implications in embracing our Affirmation of Faith and our Church Covenant (implicit in membership), the DCOM/LPO will manifest a hearty support for the leadership of the church in general and specifically for that of the Preaching Pastor.
He shall have a good grasp and hearty endorsement of the biblical and theological orientation of the leadership of Bethlehem as expressed in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Elder Affirmation of Faith. The DCOM/LPO should meet the spiritual and character qualifications of elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22. He should be wise, discerning, decisive, sensitive, tender and firm. He should be a man of prayer and a man of the Word, sensitive to what the Spirit is saying to Bethlehem. He should devote himself to daily prayer and Bible reading for the sake of guarding himself from sin and stirring up his heart and mind to renewed passion for Christ and should lead his family in regular times in the Word and prayer.
Personal Skills:
- Leadership – the DCOM/LPO should be able to lead in a variety of contexts (individual, small groups, large groups) in such a way that Jesus Christ and His Gospel are central. He should be a self starter and an initiative taker.
- Relational—the DCOM/LPO should have significant relational skills to connect within and outside of Bethlehem.
- Equipping—the DCOM/LPO should be able to effectively “equip the saints for the work of the ministry.”
- Teacher/Preacher/Counselor—the DCOM/LPO should be an able to rightly handle the Word and joyfully engage in expository exultation in a variety of settings.
- Administrator—while seeking mainly to shepherd people, the DCOM/LPO should have the skill set and ability to effectively manage and delegate the various administrative tasks associated with the position.
- Organization— The DCOM/LPO will have the organizational skills necessary to work effectively within the context of a large church with multiple staff.

Communication— The DCOM/LPO will have the communication skills necessary to articulate the vision of the church and to work effectively within the context of a large church with multiple staff.
Ministry Responsibilties:

- Director of Campus Outreach Minneapolis (COM)
(This constitutes 75% of pastoral responsibilities)- Shepherding Leadership: The staff and students involved with COM constitute a flock within a flock at Bethlehem (BBC). It is the COM Director’s responsibility to shepherd this flock.
- Strategic Leadership: COM exists as an arm of BBC to apply her vision (“we exist to spread”). It is the COM Director’s responsibility to see that COM is faithful to this call.
- Theological Leadership: It is the COM Director’s responsibility to maintain the Biblical doctrine found in the BBC Elder Affirmation of Faith (EAF) as the standard for preaching and teaching throughout the COM ministry.
- Financial Leadership: In addition to significant funds within the BBC budget, the majority of funding for COM comes from sources outside COM and BBC. It is the COM Director’s responsibility to steward the finances of COM in a manner that is above reproach and reflects Biblical standards, BBC expectations and BBC systems.
- Administrative Leadership: The scope of COM requires significant administrative ministry. It is the responsibility of the COM Director to ensure that this ministry functions with excellence, efficiency and a Biblical attitude of servanthood.
- BBC Connected Leadership: COM is a ministry of BBC. It is the responsibility of the Campus Outreach Director to connect and integrate the staff and students with the broader life and ministry of BBC.
- CO Network Leadership: COM is connected to a network of likeminded churches. The COM Director should seek to cultivate this connection and contribute as appropriate.
- Lead Pastor for Outreach.
(This constitutes 25% of pastoral responsibilities)- Oversee, shape, articulate, protect, and trumpet BBC’s church-wide vision for Outreach which will be applied appropriately among the varied Outreach ministries. This visionary role is carried out in reciprocal relationships with Outreach leaders, in which free and respectful ministry-shaping communication flows both ways.
- Provide Oversight and Pastoral Leadership for BBC’s Outreach Ministries, especially by overseeing the leaders responsible for Global Outreach, Short Term Ministry Mobilization (STMM), and Hispanic Outreach/Ministry.
- Facilitate Cross Campus collaboration for Neighborhood Outreach Pastors and other Outreach staff leaders by fostering a sense of teamwork and esprit de corps among the Outreach staff as a part of the broader dynamic across all BBC campuses and departments.
- Oversee and help prioritize the Outreach Budget.
- Participate in BBC Pastoral Leadership Team.
- Participate in fulfilling general BBC pastoral duties.
