What, Who, When, and Why?

Price is $60.00. This includes a participant guide, t-shirt, parent prayer guide, dinner on Friday and Saturday, breakfast on Saturday, lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Dates: October 15-17, 2010

Our theme this year is One. Some of the texts we are using to inform this theme are Romans 12:3-11; Ephesians 4:1-16; 1 Corinthians 12:4-14; and 1 Peter 4:10-11. We hope to emphasize that every believer is a member of the greater body of the church, each believer is given gifts to exercise in service to other members of the body, we are expected to live with one another in ways that accord with the gospel, and we are called to minister to the world calling them to faith in the gospel and to join us in the body of Christ.

Our purpose is to glorify God. We rejoice to think of your son or daughter joining us. Our prayer is that this year’s Awaken event will be a place where your child comes to understand how the gospel of Christ is intended to unify his children into one body intended to edify and build each other up. We pray that the one Spirit who binds us together will cultivate a desire in them and transform them to live as a vital member of the larger body of those who belong to Christ and model a life of joyful service for the good of one another and those who have yet to trust Christ.

In the days leading up to Awaken ’10 we will be seeking the Lord in our selection and training of parents to host small groups, help those who are hosting (Help-A Hosts), and other adult leaders who will lead small groups as mentors. We will also be preparing fun, purposeful activities intended to foster and practice our living together as one body for the glory of our head, Jesus Christ. Our speakers will be crafting messages filled with gospel truth specifically designed for these age groups. Our worship team will be designing and rehearsing the sets we’ll all use to worship God in our sessions.

Thank you for trusting us with your child. Please pray that God would breathe on our preparation so that all we do will bring Him glory and help young people find their joy abiding in Christ together in the fellowship of the greater body. We want our efforts to come alongside your efforts to produce maturing believers who crave fellowship with God, shape their lives with and around the truth of the gospel of His Son, Jesus, and desire to foster deep, faith-strengthening, gospel-saturated, God-honoring relationships with fellow believers and unbelievers. And may we all have an amazing time believing the gospel of God so that we may live in and according to Christ’s gospel together as one!

Please save this document as it contains important information you and your child will need as you prepare for Awaken '10.

How and when do I register?
Registration is July 24 through October 1. Now extended to October 3.

You will receive an email confirmation if you are successfully registered! If you do not receive such a confirmation within 10 minutes of submitting your registration electronically, it is likely your registration was not successful. Call or email Kevin at 612.270.4111 or kdau@usfamily.net if you do not receive a timely confirmation email! If you cannot reach Kevin, contact Emily at 612.455.3484.
Scholarships are only available during open registration while funding lasts. Registrations must be received by October 1 to benefit from scholarships.

Please do not procrastinate! Here are some reasons to register earlier than later:

  1. Scholarship and discount funds may be unavailable later.
  2. Often more time than expected is needed to respond to requests, answer questions, or make special arrangements and exceptions will not be made for these delays.
  3. Technical glitches can delay registration, especially at the deadline when large numbers attempt to register at once.
  4. Putting off registration can lead to forgetting to register by the deadline.
  5. Mail can be lost or delayed. Register early to ensure timely delivery.
  6. Registrations are taken on a first come, first served basis. If Awaken fills, incoming registrants will be placed on a waiting list.
  7. Pushing deadlines can be stressful.

Due to the logistical complexity of this event, no registrations will be accepted after October 1!

Scholarship and Discount Information

Host parents can send up to two children at no charge. However, they will not be eligible for the Multiple Family Member Discount. Once you are confirmed as a host parent you will receive the discount code you’ll need for online registration. Paper registration does not require a code, only a notation. If you’ve already registered your children, discounts will be retroactively applied and a refund will be issued.

Any family not hosting, but registering more than two children from their family qualifies for our Multiple-Family Member Discount. Please contact Kevin to receive your discount code(s) as they will available only while funding lasts. The discount applies as follows: $30 off for each additional child beyond the first two.

Need Based Scholarships of up to $30 are available upon request while funding lasts.

To request a scholarship or discount, contact Kevin at 612.455.3493 or at kdau@usfamily.net.

Parents as Hosts and Help-A-Hosts
We need parents to host. A host home is one where small groups of students and their leader are offered hospitality and lodging during Awaken '10. Host parents will also receive up to two free registrations for their own children. See “Scholarship and Discount Information” above for details.
We need parents to "help-a-host". These parents become part of the host home's team providing substantial support to host parents throughout the weekend.

What does a Host do?
Host parents will provide their home to house one of our small groups. Small groups are made up of students and their mentor or small group leader. Exact numbers will be confirmed once registration closes and groups are formed. We generally expect them to be 8-12. Hosts will help provide transportation to and from Awaken activities. Evening snacks are expected on Friday and Saturday nights with a continental breakfast provided on Sunday morning. Host parents are welcome to attend Friday dinner and Sunday lunch along with all parents. They are also welcome to attend our parents Q&A and any session especially when we join the Saturday evening service at the north campus.

What does a Help-A-Host do?
A help-a-host will team up with host parents to help provide transportation, food, and other requested support so the responsibility of hosting is shared with esprit de corps among parents serving in ministry together.

What if I have to cancel my child’s registration?
If you need to cancel your child’s registration, contact me as soon as possible at 612.270.4111 or email me at kdau@usfamily.net. You may cancel your registration without penalty through September 26. However, any cancellations on or after September 27 may result in only partial refunds due to financial obligations Bethlehem has incurred.

Where is Awaken '10 being held?
We will begin and end at Bethlehem’s downtown campus at 720 13th Ave. S. in Minneapolis, MN 55415. We will spend much of Saturday at Bethlehem’s north campus at 5151 Program Ave. in Mounds View, MN 55112.
We will also be spread out throughout the metro area at parents homes for housing and at various other locations throughout the weekend for other activities and ministry.

What should my child bring?
Bible, notebook, pen, sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries (e.g. soap, shampoo, bath towel, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant), flashlight, camera (not phone-based), broomball gear, rain gear, t-shirts, socks, shoes, underwear, athletic wear, and some warm clothing such as sweatshirts, jeans, and sweat pants for cooler activities.

Can we bring electronic devices?
No. We will confiscate any phone, game, mp3 player, or iSomething devices and return them at our convenience. Only stand alone digital cameras are allowed.  We will be careful, but won’t be responsible for the care/condition of devices we confiscate. Bring them at your own risk!

My child takes medication, what should I do with it?
ALL medications and dosage instructions are to be turned into our doctor or other designated staff unless permission and arrangements have been made for the child to keep them (such as an inhaler).

What are your general expectations of my child?
We expect everyone to follow the instructions of our leaders. We want everyone to have lots of fun, attend all planned events, and keep a godly attitude. Anyone not able to follow the rules may be sent home at our discretion but at their expense.

Should my child have prayer partners during Awaken '10?
Your child is expected to have at least two people praying for them regularly before and during Awaken ’10. Please find a friend or relative who will agree to do this. Ask them to pray that God would increase your child’s passion for abiding in Christ and grow in their desire to have their relationships fuel this passion. Prayer guides will be provided to parents to use and distribute.

How will my child be assigned a small group?
After counselors have been recruited and open registration closes, your child will be grouped as best we can to reflect the groups and leaders they will have close contact with for our regular Sunday and Wednesday ministries. This includes consideration for grade and campus.

If you have any special requests, please contact Kevin. We will do our best to accommodate them. The make up of your child’s group will be given to you as soon as such assignments are complete so you may know where they will be housed, communicate with your child’s leaders and vice versa, be praying for those in your child’s group, and contacting the parents of other children in your group.

Parent Activities
Parents will be invited to eat dinner with us on Friday night, join us for our Parent’s Q&A to follow, and the session that evening. Parents are also invited, especially hosts and help-a-hosts, to join us for the Saturday evening service at the North campus so we may all worship together and be free for Sunday morning ministries. All sessions are open to parents to attend.

May God make this a spiritually profitable time for you and your child,
