A Call to Small Togetherness

Author:
John Piper

Here are the guidelines I promised you last Sunday. The main point of the message was: In order for all the saints (you) to do the work of the ministry as the New Testament teaches (Ephesians 4:11, 12; Hebrews 3:12-14; 10:24, 25; Galatians 6:2; James 5:16), you need to gather regularly in smaller forms of togetherness. Here is what I think should characterize all these various forms.

Praying for Jason Meyer

Published by: Sam Crabtree
April 23, 2012

Jason Meyer is the candidate for Associate Pastor for Preaching & Vision to be voted upon May 20. Last week we received the following wonderful inquiry:

“My small group has decided to take four Tuesdays (including last night), to fast and pray for our church and its leaders during this transition. I wanted to ask if there are certain things that we should be praying for beyond the obvious.

Outreach Workshop

Published by: Anonymous
November 29, 2011

This Saturday, November 29, we have our second shepherd leader workshop of the year. The interactive workshop is 9:30-11:30am at the North Campus and will focus on equipping your group to share about Jesus with those around them. Pastor Vince Johnson and his team will share and answer questions regarding the role that outreach should play in our small groups.

Life Together: Cheaper than Chick-fil-A!

November 9, 2011

Saturday morning, while I was teaching at our South Site, a young woman poked her head in to say to one of the people in the class, "Your chicken is in the office kitchen refrigerator."

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.—Romans 12:5

Shepherd Leader Meetings

Published by: Anonymous
November 8, 2011

This coming Sunday evening (11/13), there will be shepherd leader meetings at the North and South campuses. Shepherd leader meetings are designed to be a time of inspiration and edification from the word, training to lead well, and connection with elders who can provide oversight and care.

This last part is likely the most significant. In a church our size it becomes increasingly difficult to be connected with the leadership of the church. Our elders have agreed to disciple shepherd leaders throughout the year as you strive to care for your group.

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.—Romans 12:5

Last Fall, each of the campus pastors gave a charge to their respective congregations to engage in small group ministry at Bethlehem. If you weren't with us or if you want to be inspired and equipped again, the links to their messages are below.

Upcoming Leader Trainings

Published by: Anonymous
October 26, 2011

In just a few weeks we will have another round of shepherd leader trainings at all 3 campuses. If you're interested in leading or starting a small group and have not attended one of our two-day trainings, we hope you will consider coming to one listed below.

These trainings are a unique opportunity to hear in just two sessions the vision behind Bethlehem's small group ministry, the hopes and expectations we have for each of our groups and their leaders, and the practical principles we've learned over the years for how to lead a small group.

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.—Romans 12:5

Faithful, Personal, and Persistent Care

Published by: Anonymous
October 21, 2011

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our confidence firm to the end—Hebrews 3:12-14.

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.—Romans 12:5
