“Seek the Welfare of the City” (Jeremiah 29:7)

Neighborhood Outreach ministries (formerly Urban) grows out of the conviction that even as we continue to be earnest about reaching the peoples of "the ends of the earth," we must also be earnest about reaching the people of our own city (cf. Acts 1:8). The statement "proximity implies responsibility" has helped us communicate our understanding that the Lord holds us responsible to minister to the peoples and communities to which we are the closest. We believe that the challenge of ministry in the urban community involves meeting physical and social needs, as well as spiritual ones.

An Important Snapshot of Jesus' City Ministry

And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Matthew 9:35-38

Following Jesus' lead, our mission in Neighborhood Outreach is to minister to the many immediate needs of the community around us, all the while proclaiming the good news of Christ's reign and rule. We would be extremely happy if you would join us in this pursuit.
